Sundial in Tērvete

The Sundial is dedicated to the memory of the 13th-century freedom struggles of the great Semigallians.
As early as 1933, a flagpole was erected on Tērvete Hillfort, at the highest point of the ancient hillfort, where the Latvian national flag was raised on ceremonial occasions. In the same year, a limestone sundial, created by the student association Latvju studente, was installed on the edge of the hillfort.
Materials: Concrete base, concrete dial with metal hour markers, metal gnomon.

The sundial was restored in 1998. The restored sundial monument was created by Jānis Butlers, while the wooden plaque was made by Gunārs Švītiņš.
In 2025, the monument received a new wooden plaque thanks to the initiative of Tērvete resident Jānis Švītiņš and the cooperation of the Tērvete Parish Administration and Latvijas valsts meži Nature Park Tērvete.
