The monument, which was put up at the Dobele Cemetery in honour of those soldiers who had lost their lives during the World War I and Latvia’s freedom battles, was inaugurated on 3 September 1939. It reads ‘To the unknown soldiers who died while on duty from 1914 to 1920’. In the centre of the monument, there used to be a copper moulding made by metal artist Alfons Vīksna as a diploma project, which was awarded a silver medal at the Berlin Fine Arts Exhibition. The granite slab was processed by the company owned by Eduards Kurau. Unfortunately, the copper moulding disappeared in the 1950’s. It was restored in 2002. The stone moulding was made by sculptor Inta Berga.
