The memorial stone was inaugurated in 1936 at the battle place of the brigade of General Jānis Balodis near the homestead Batari. It is a place where a battle between the Latvian Independent Brigade and the 10th Latvian Riflemen Soviet Division consisting to 90 per cent of Latvians took place on 22 March 1919. During the Latvia’s freedom battles, it was one of those battles where a Latvian was forced to face another Latvian. In a fierce battle, which sometimes turned into a melee, the opponent was defeated. The brigade of General J. Balodis won the battle with 10 casualties, while the Latvian Riflemen Soviet Division lost 50 soldiers.
