Memorial sign in the centre of Bērze

The memorial sign was placed in the centre of Bērze near the church in 1926, at the place of the monument. It was the first monument at the inauguration of which the State president was present in 1926. The names of 32 residents of Bērze Parish, who had lost their lives during the World War I and Latvia’s freedom battles from 1918 to 1920, were engraved on it, including the name of officer Nikolajs Grundmanis who lost his life at Airītes together with Kalpaks, the first Commander-in-Chief of Latvian Army.
