A memorial to a microbiologist Kristap Helman

Entered world history alongside Pasteur and Koch as an outstanding microbiologist. Added the knowledge acquired at the Turbat Veterinary Institute in Paris with Louis Pasteur. Founded the first department of the Pasteur station in the world (1890). He was one of the founders of the Institute of Experimental Medicine in Petersburg. After researching the causative agents of evil spirits, rabies, tuberculosis and anthrax, he obtained maleine for the first time. Died in 1892 in Petersburg, buried in Tervete cemetery.
