The building was constructed around 1905 as a private school, designed by its owner Jānis Lagzdiņš. The bricks for the construction were fabricated in the nearby Vecauce brick-kiln. The school was named ‘J. Lagzdiņš 4-Year Private School for Girls’, and it operated from 1911 to 1915. After the World War I, until the school year 1927/28, the classes for the youngest pupils of the village elementary school were held in this building. Over time, the building has housed the Town Council, the Jelgava District Police Station, and other authorities. It is one of the most beautiful, prominent, and, in terms of history, interesting buildings in Auce.
